How to deal with emerging substances / PFAS / Microplastics
Description
European and national legislation have adopted measures to reduce emissions and monitor numerous pollutants in the aquatic environment. However, emerging micropollutants are gaining increasing attention as ubiquitous contaminants (microplastics, pharmaceuticals, flame retardants, quaternary ammonium or phosphonium compounds, REEs and PFAS).
Some of them (QPCs, PFAS) raise considerable concerns in terms of persistence and (eco)toxicity. Microplastics (MP) accumulated in marine and freshwater sediments increased significantly the environmental impact of polymers and the formation of nanoplastics.
Talks present the latest results on emerging micropollutants, helping to define future monitoring strategies and sediment management.
