Sediments in coastal-marine management and EU strategies
HORIZON Europe / Blue Growth Sustainable use, development and protection of the coastal/marine environment and associated resources. Sediment supply or lack thereof can influence water quality, the stability of seafloor and adjacent coastlines, erosion and flooding or excess sediment leading to navigation and other water quality issues. Activities related to coastal industries, maritime transport and infrastructures can influence the distribution of sediments. Most harbours need to be dredged, the volumes of sediments are increasing and cause management issues. Morphological restoration of inter-tidal areas, beach nourishment and seabed mining resources are other very important issues. Advanced methods are needed for providing high quality environmental data for managing the effects and cumulative effects of these activities.
